If you've heard of Lora Arellano, then you'll have heard of Melt Cosmetics.The beautiful Lora owns and runs Melt cosmetics, which offers an insanely varied selection of lipsticks and eyeshadow stacks.The big cult favourite of the selection is the Dark Matter Stack, which was crafted to create a more exciting variation of a smokey eye.Made up of matte warm rust colours, the shadows themselves are highly pigmented and easily blendable.At $49 dollars it's not exactly cheap but for eyeshadows of such good quality i think it's worth it.Also if a dark smokey eyes not your thing they also do a love sick stack which would give you a more colourful smokey eye or the radioactive stack which is made up of the brightest neons known to man.

Jeffree Star Liquid Lipsticks

At Christmas i was gifted three of the Jeffree stars liquid lipsticks, something which I've wanted to get my hands on for quite a while.Thankfully they do not disappoint, there super pigmented, glide on perfectly, dry to a true matte and they smell like vanilla root beer.They are also vegan and totally cruelty free.Yet again the colours i chose where a little a unusual but they do go on true to colour and there staying power even when eating and drinking is unbelievable.These three where bought from the American website (it works out cheaper to buy them in bulk but you do have to pay customs) but you can also buy them from cocktail cosmetics.Unfortunately two of these lipsticks where limited edition for Christmas (drug lord and mistletoe) but dirty money will be restocked on the 12th of February on Jeffree stars website.

The best horror movies currently on netflix (Part One)


I love talking about films (especially horrors) so i thought I'd go through Paste magazines current top 60 best horror films and review them.I'll be doing this is in parts every Monday for the next few weeks and i hope you enjoy something a little different from the normal beauty reviews.

60.Zombeavers-One of those utterly ridiculous yet stupidly good fun films.This one is about mutated zombie beavers terrorising a group of teenagers and hilarity ensues.

59.Dark skies- This has the potential to be quite a good film about alien abductions yet fell massively short.Slightly confusing and hard to get into but still watchable.

58.The ABC's of Death-This is made up of 26 horror shorts by various directors.Some are fantastic and some are just plain bizarre but i really enjoyed seeing a nice variation.

57.Dead Silence-A film about a ventriloquist and her creepy ass dolls, this is one of my all time favourite films even though it's not always met with rave reviews.

56.Dead Snow Red vs Dead-Having watched it's predecessor, i was looking forward to watching the second one.The film is about Nazi zombies and it's just fun,bloody and over the top.Just how every zombie should be.

55.The Awakening-In all honesty i struggled to get into this film as it was just another standard ghost story in an old house.

54.Proxy-This is not a film for the chicken hearted, it made me incredibly uncomfortable in the beginning and made it hard to watch.A film about stalking and motherhood, it makes you squirm and feel on edge the entire time.

53.A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Nightmare-A fun but bizarre film (the budgie scene for crying out loud) it may not be the best nightmare on elm street but it's still good in its own right.

52.Dust Devil-I got 10 minutes into this and had to turn it off as it was incredibly boring and really strange horror western.

51.Children Of The Corn-I've loved Stephen King since I was wee, and yet weirdly I hadn't watched this cult classic.Fantastic film but it's put me off children forever.

50.Stage Fright-A musical horror....I got to the first song and had to turn it off as it was making me cringe!

In the past I've spoke highly about the Kat Von D Tattoo liner and the liquid lipsticks so it's no surprise that i was won over by there standard lipsticks too.These lipsticks are smooth,creamy and pigmented.They also last through meals with very little transfer and are also incredibly hydrating.I also love that the entire range is cased in the same bad ass studded tube and that they come in every colour from every day nudes to the more out there colours that i so adore.

How I Deal With My Anxiety

Since i was around 16 years old I've dealt daily with my ongoing anxiety.This was generally made worse over the years by toxic relationships and friendships which caused me to end up with serious anxiety issues.My problems can range from me being uncomfortable in social situations, to me sitting on buses crying my eyes out because i have this horrible sense of doom (this has happened on more than one occasion).Over time I've kinda learnt small ways to deal with the bad days so i thought I'd share some with you all.

  • Take a nap- this is my favourite one as i tend to nod off and forget what i was worrying about.
  • Have something to fidget with- I wear two hair bobbles on my wrist if i need something to distract myself.
  • Have a bath-Sometimes there is nothing better than a nice big bath with a lush bath bomb
  • Play a game- Not to everyone tastes but i find immersing myself in a different world really helps me relax.
  • Talk to someone-When things are really getting on top of me,i have certain people i know i can turn too if i need advise or just a shoulder to cry on.
  • Take up a hobby-I took up cross stitching, as i found focusing on the one project very therapeutic.
  • Watch a film-I have a series of films i turn to whenever i need to escape, Disney films or the harry potter box set is a sure winner for this.
  • Go a walk-Sometimes i find popping in my headphones and walking on my own for half an hour or so really clears my head.
  • Pamper yourself-Put on a face mask, order takeaway, do your nails and watch a brand new box set and you'll feel right as rain.

This is only a few ways that i feel i can deal with my anxiety day to day as well as making sure i eat well,exercise and take my medication regularly.I hope  this helps anyone dealing with anxiety and depression.

Limecrime Venus Grunge Palette





This palette is made up of neutrals and rusty reds and is perfect for those after that 90's grunge vibe or someone after something a little different from your normal eyeshadow offerings.The shadows themselves are smooth, pigmented,blend well and even though i use them often i don't seem to have made much of an indent.Also who couldn't be a sucker for the artwork on the front?

New Beginnings


So I'm finally back from my well needed break! At the end of November i made a post about how i was going to take a break over the Christmas period so i could rest and recuperate.Sadly this turned into a two month break due to my health yet again becoming a problem as well as issues with my dad.Thankfully I'm starting to get to a point where my health is some what under control and moving in a direction where i may find out whats been causing me alot of problems for the last month and my dad is getting better everyday too.I'm so excited to start posting again and I'm delighted so many of you have been checking back and have stuck around.Normal posting will resume again tomorrow and i have so many awesome things to share with everyone.


Thank you all for being awesome and i can't wait to get stuck back in.

Taking a break...

I always said if i was to write a blog, i would either do it 100% or not do it at all and currently i don't feel like i can give it the full attention i feel it deserves.This is due to balancing work and life as well as a lot of ongoing difficulties with my mental and physical health, something i always wanted to talk about here.So i think the best thing for me to do is to take the month of December a way to recharge and plan for 2016 and come back better than ever.Thank you for those who do read a Scottish rose regularly and i apologies for the sometimes sporadic posting but i do love writing this and i love getting to know you all so thank you for sticking around!

Birchbox X Skinnydip



I rarely get any beauty boxes anymore but as a massive fan of skinnydip and there amazing bags, i thought I'd give there collaboration with birchbox a bash! My box came with the following:

So Susan Featherlash Mascara: I have super flat, quite light brown eye lashes but this mascara makes my lashes look so curled and utterly pitch black.Oh and it's full size so win, win.

Lord & Berry Silhouette Neutral Lip Liner: At first i thought this was a white eyeliner but it wasn't until i read the description that i noticed it was a lip liner.I don't generally wear lip liner as i tend to only wear liquid lipsticks but i may give this a go when using some of my more odd coloured lipsticks.

Trilogy Make-up Be Gone Cleansing Balm: My skin appears to hate this stuff as I've broken out in spots since using it, so instead I'm going to use it to clean my incredibly dirty make up brushes (this may also be why my skin broke out, but ya know...)

Thumbs up Rosa Nail Wraps: These are being passed along to my sister as my tiny fingers nails are too wee to use wraps, which is a shame as i quite like the design of these.

Beauty protector Beauty Cream Body Lotion: I don't really like body lotions as they leave me feeling greasy before bed so I'll also be passing this along as it'll just sit unused.

Delarom Creme Acquaconfort: My favourite item in this box by far, I've needed a good moisturiser for a while and I'm so glad this little thing came into my life as it's made my skin silky smooth! I'm even tempted to purchase the £34 full size bottle as it's just so good.

Game Review: Fallout 4


Those who know me pretty well will understand the utter excitement that went through me when this popped through my door two weeks ago, i even actually bought a ps4 for the soul purpose of playing this game.I've had a love affair with the fallout series since i got my mittens on fallout 3 so many years ago and after new Vegas, I've waited forever to play this.

It's now been two weeks since the game was released and sadly i haven't been able to put in as many hours as i would have liked too.Regardless of this fact, i genuinely think this game may over take my love for fallout 3.I won't give any of the storyline away nor any of the side missions you come across as i think part of the joy of fallout is finding all the things yourself but i will say that this time it's a lot harder than its predecessors.Radiation eats a way at  your health bar, you now have to deal with legendary characters (the first time i came across a legendary raider was both hilarious and soul destroying) and even the weather is out to kill you! but this has made it that little bit more challenging and that bit more fun.

Currently I'm only level 10 and haven't done near enough of the map as I'd like but I've learnt some lessons in the hours that i have put in.Like don't go swimming in the quarry if you don't have access to a doctor as it means that even the smallest mole rat will kill you and don't live in your power armour suit as it's clunky and you'll run out of battery power quicker than you think.

I'd recommend this to anyone who loves open world games, who love exploring absolutely everything and is quite willing to die every 10 minutes.

3 New Lipstick Loves


I'm a well known addict of the lipstick kind, and the more out there the colour the better.Bright pinks,dark blues,violets and greys are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my lipstick collection but ill save that for another post.Anyway onto my 3 new favourites!

LA Girl Matte Lipstick in Poetic-Sooooo I've really wanted a grey lipstick for ages but Britain isn't exactly very good for out there lipstick choices but i came across a American brand called LA Girl while snooping instagram.To my utter joy they had poetic, which is the most beautiful dusty grey and the formulation of there lipsticks are lovely considering that they are quite cheap.I'm not sure how long the wearability is as i haven't had the chance to wear it out yet (seriously someone invite me on a night out) but so far so good!

Black Moon Cosmetics in Libra-A gift from my sister for my birthday this has became an everyday staple since.This is the most beautiful nude liquid lipstick, that doesn't dry out my lips, doesn't crumble and it smells like vanilla cupcakes! They tend to need a little top up around the 4 hour mark  if you're drinking but I've had so many compliments on the colour of this and I'm 100% ok in smothering my lips with anything that smells remotely like vanilla cakes.

Kat Von D in Vampira-I spoke about the Kat Von D liquid liner here but this time I'm going to talk about her liquid lipsticks.Yet another gift from my sister, this is what I'd describe as a deep red with a hint of gold when it dries, probably not an every day number for me but it's still the most beautiful shade of red.The wearability of these lipsticks are insane to the point that it's incredibly hard to take off with even the strongest of make up removers so it can really last through anything.My only problem with them is that the applicator is so bloody long, it makes a neat application that little bit harder.

It's a well known fact i suck at contouring (doesn't help that i have a face like a football but ya know) but I'm 100% on board with this whole strobing thing! I've been a little bit late to the game with this item but i finally got my paws on the Mary Lou Manizer by The Balm.This is a beautiful light gold highlighter, which makes you glow in all the right places.I know a few people have had issues with highlighters due to the fact there skin is too pale but as someone who is a white as a ghost, I've not had a problem.The staying power on this is also fantastic even if you are dancing away all night and i like the the fact you can put it on lightly during the day for a more subtle glow.I may actually add the other highlighters from The Balm to the collection as I'm just so in love with this.

Because working in an office just isn't hard enough....

1.You get dead good at making coffees and teas.

2.You'll be become best friends with your office suppliers

3.And the people who fix the printer/fax machine.

4.You're responsible for everyone and there mothers schedules and getting it just right so they don't conflict is incredibly stress inducing and someone always complains.

Best Eyeliner Ever?!


Last month my sister did a little sephora haul and bought me this beauty and to be honest I'm doing little happy dances inside because of it! I've wore my eye make up the same way for the last decade and a good black liquid eyeliner is key to it.I've tried every blogger favourite including the collection one that everyone swears by but nothing seemed to last all day or they weren't as black as i wanted them to be.

Then this little gem came into my life, it's pitch black, last all day and has the finest nib so i can do all the sassy winged eyeliner.It's a shame it's not exactly easy to get (the custom charges alone make me want to ugly cry) but it's worth it for how good my eyeliner now looks.I'm hoping to put in a sephora order soon and the tattoo liner will be going straight in my basket so i have a back up.I'm actually going to order some more of Kat Von D's make up line as so far I'm besotted with the eyeliner formulation as well as her liquid lipsticks.

Anyway I'm going to go eat dinner, as really how much can you say about a eyeliner before everyone takes a snooze ?!

Do my tattoos stop me from getting jobs?


I've wanted to be heavily tattooed since i was around about 10 when i seen someone for the first time with a sleeve but i was always told that i couldn't be visibly tattooed as I'd never get a job and I'd be a bum.Fast forward 14 years and I've got some pretty decent coverage which also includes highly visible areas like my hands and forearms and i can honestly say being tattooed has never held me back from getting the job i want.

I have worked for Police Scotland, Scottish Widows, Amazon as well as many other companies and bar the one company who asked me to wear long sleeves, i have had zero issues.Generally people tend to ask about them, rather than look down on me for them.Would i advise someone to run out and get there hands and neck tattooed because of my good experience in the work place? Well no.I am fully aware that i can be turned down for any job i go for due to having my fingers tattooed and i accepted those consequences when i got them done and I'm aware that i may have just been pretty lucky in what jobs I've went for.

I would advise anyone who wants to get there hands/neck tattooed to hold out until you're in permanent job and make sure with your employer if it's ok that you can go ahead and do so.They are called job stoppers for nothing folks!
